REGIONAL LOCATION & MINING HISTORY

The Junín Region has been one of Peru's most important mining districts for centuries. Historic mining around Cerro de Pasco, La Oroya, Morococha, and Yauli established the region as the country's principal center for polymetallic production. Railways, smelters, hydroelectric infrastructure, and mining services built for these operations created an excellent foundation for future mineral development.  INGEMMET identified significant manganese anomalies in the Jauja–Acostambo area, confirming favorable geological conditions for additional manganese exploration. These studies suggest that parts of Junín remain prospective for new manganese discoveries despite limited historical investment specifically targeting manganese.                

Mining in the Cusco region has traditionally been dominated by copper and precious metals. Large modern operations of copper production demonstrate the region's exceptional mineral endowment and well-developed mining infrastructure.  Within the region, historical geological mapping has identified manganese mineralization associated with volcanic and sedimentary rocks, particularly in the provinces of Espinar, Canchis, Chumbivilcas, Quispicanchi, and the Condoroma–Paratia district. Elevated natural manganese concentrations documented in hydrogeological investigations further support the presence of manganese-bearing formations.
